Just something I've wondered about recently. Would you consider the use of macros or scripts (Such as a SCAR script) fair, or cheating? And to what extent?
In my opinion, I think using a macro or script would be fair if it was programmed yourself. I believe that games should be played/won using the best of your own abilities, and if you used an automated tool that was programmed by yourself, then even if the tool was doing the playing for you, the tool is still a representing your own abilities. Maybe you were playing a game that required rapid and accurate clicking of the mouse; you might not be very good at it yourself, so you make a script in SCAR that does that for you. You're merely substituting your programming skills for your speed and coordination. I think that playing games with these scripts is fair game.
I draw the line when people use scripts that were made by somebody else, though. You're not playing the game with your own talents, you're playing it with somebody elses talents, so I think it would be fair to call this cheating.
Before you post, please disregard opinions on whether people should cheat or not. Some people despise cheaters, and some people are fine with cheating/cheaters, but that's not what this is about. I want to know where you would draw the line between cheating and fair play.
